Seven Winners Selected by a Panel of Esteemed Judges for Their Unparalleled Creativity in Kitchen Design

BLANDON, PA — August 23, 2024 — BlueStar®, the manufacturer of professional-performance kitchen appliances for the home, is thrilled to announce the 2024 Kitchen Design Contest winners. Seven exceptional kitchen projects, six regional and one grand prize winner, have been chosen for their creative use of BlueStar® appliances, showcasing the brand’s infinite customization options and superior performance. This year’s judging panel included some of the industry’s most talented designers, including previous contest winners Charla Ray, Amy Storm, and Heidi Piron, alongside the BlueStar panel.

The grand prize-winning design is a stunning Colorado retreat by Brian Anderson of Thurston Kitchen & Bath in collaboration with architect Lea Sisson and builder Alpine Mountain Construction. Drawing inspiration from the expansive mountain views, the kitchen features a BlueStar® 60” Platinum Series Gas Range in Wine Red with Brushed Stainless Steel knobs and trims, complemented by a 58” Professional Hood Liner. This handleless, sleek kitchen design emphasizes the rich Wine Red range, creating a striking contrast against the modern palette of weathered wood and sleek black. The kitchen merges modern wood grain Carbone textured laminate cabinets with integral pulls, steel elements, and integrated appliances, crafting a contemporary aesthetic that harmonizes with its breathtaking surroundings.

“This kitchen design offers a harmonious blend of light and dark textured woods, creating a visually pleasing contrast that is further enhanced by the vibrant Red Wine BlueStar® range. The careful attention to scale, proportion, and meticulous details elevate this refined kitchen design to stunning levels,” said Heidi Piron, one of this year’s judges and a previous BlueStar® contest winner.

Additionally, BlueStar® is pleased to announce six regional winners:

  • Michelle Murphy – Demi Ryan, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
  • Amanda Chando – Design and Details, Stevensville, Maryland
  • Jennifer Koch – Jennifer Austin Design, Los Angeles, California
  • Vivian Hung – Global Home Interiors, Princeton, New Jersey
  • Sarah Jones – Sarah Jones Design, Columbia Falls,  Montana
  • Mika Frechette – Stoneledge Farm + Home, Bennington, Vermont

Commenting on this year’s entries, judge Amy Storm noted, “It was fascinating to see how designers incorporated fine details and consistency across a variety of styles. The winning designs particularly stood out for their cohesive use of finishes and materials, integrated with great attention to detail.”

Overall, the 2024 contest highlighted several key trends in kitchen design, including the increasing popularity of warm wood tones, bold color choices, and richly textured materials. The versatility of BlueStar® appliances allowed designers to push creative boundaries, resulting in kitchens that are not only functional but also visually striking.

With over a century of offering high-performance appliances and beautiful, customizable designs, BlueStar® is proud to recognize the talented designers who create dream kitchens throughout the US. The annual competition has become a coveted honor celebrating the incredible kitchen projects that incorporate BlueStar® professional-style appliances such as ranges, wall ovens, vent hoods, and premium refrigeration for the home. The Grand Prize winner receives BlueStar® appliances with up to $20,000 retail value, and regional winners are granted a cookware set retailed between $400-$600.

Since 1880, BlueStar® has handcrafted high-performance appliances in Pennsylvania, offering infinitely customizable options, as unique as the chefs who use them. For general information visit www.bluestarcooking.com or join the conversation on social media @bluestarcooking.

This Curated Selection of BlueStar Colors Celebrates the Hues of Summer

BLANDON, PA—June 13, 2024—BlueStar®, manufacturer of professional-grade kitchen appliances for the home, announces its 2024 Summer Color Palette. Chosen from over 1,000 of the brand’s color offerings, the five-color palette celebrates the warmth of summer and the energy behind the primary colors of our world—reds, blues, and yellow.

This year’s Summer Color Palette consists of Raspberry Red, Salmon Orange, Honey Yellow, Pastel Blue, and Green Blue—selections high in contrast that reflect the vivid tones of the season. From the rich vibrancy of ripe raspberries to the tranquil hue of a clear summer sky, these colors will allow designers and homeowners alike to bring the beauty of the outdoors into the every day, transforming appliances into pieces of art that enhance the playfulness of any kitchen.

“This year’s summer colors picks are a reflection of nature,” says Ann Muth, Vice President of Marketing at BlueStar. “This color palette celebrates boldness and invites the warmth that summer brings into the kitchen year round. These hues are a vibrant compliment to the neutral tans designers are using.”

Raspberry Red: A rich and luscious shade reminiscent of ripe berries plucked straight from the vine on a summer day. This color exudes warmth and vibrancy, with hints of pink and crimson.

Salmon Orange: Soft and soothing, this deep orange is reminiscent of summer sunsets. With undertones of peach and coral, this color radiates warmth and tranquility, like the last rays of sunlight gently kissing the horizon.

Honey Yellow: BlueStar’s 2024 Color of the Year, selected by Tikene Triggs,  introduces vibrancy and energy through a warm and inviting hue that reflects the golden glow of ripe honey through its soft amber undertones.

Pastel Blue: Ethereal and serene, pastel blue is a delicate shade that mirrors the softness of a clear summer sky. With a hint of powdery white, this serene hue is perfect for creating a calming home retreat.

Green Blue: Reflective of nature’s deeper tones, Green Blue’s cool and refreshing undertones of teal and aquamarine bring a sense of natural harmony and vitality, like the shimmering waters of a secluded mountain stream.

Four-Time James Beard Winner Joins the Roster of Acclaimed Chefs with a
Restaurant-Quality BlueStar Kitchen at Home

BLANDON, PA — March 2024 — BlueStar®, manufacturer of professional-grade kitchen appliances for the home cook, is thrilled to announce the addition of Suzanne Goin to their All-Star Chefs team. Goin is a four-time James Beard Award-winning chef, restaurateur, and author of two bestselling cookbooks, “Sunday Suppers at Lucques” and “The A.O.C. Cookbook”. She runs multiple fine-dining restaurants in Los Angeles — a.o.c. in Los Angeles and Brentwood and Caldo Verde at the Downtown LA Proper with Chef Caroline Styne — as well as Larder Baking Company, a wholesale bakery project from Goin and Styne.

Chef Goin joins an exclusive group of BlueStar All-Star chefs, critics, and designers including the likes of Michael Symon, Jonathan Benno, Ford Fry, and more who are passionate about cooking and quality results at home. Chef Goin’s custom BlueStar kitchen features a 60” Platinum Series Range in Chrome Green with Antique Brass Trim and a 36” Pro Built-In Stainless Steel refrigerator.

“I’ve always loved to cook, even as a kid. There’s something about taking ingredients and being able to create something, and having that something you’ve created to make people happy is a big part of it,” says Chef Goin. “BlueStar allows me to bring the quality and performance I use at my restaurants into my home for my friends and family—all of us gathered in the kitchen or around the table, just like how it was for me growing up.”

A Los Angeles native, Chef Goin began her culinary career early on, interning at Ma Maison while in high school before attending Brown University. After graduation, Suzanne’s resume grew with positions at acclaimed restaurants including L’Orangerie in Los Angeles, Al Forno in Providence, Olives in Boston, and Chez Panisse in Berkeley. In the early ’90s, she worked with Chef Alain Passard at three-star L’Arpège in Paris before returning home to Los Angeles where she worked as executive chef at Mark Peel’s beloved restaurant, Campanile. Chef Goin’s two cookbooks have received immense recognition, becoming best-sellers. Her book, “Sunday Suppers at Lucques” received the James Beard Foundation’s award for “Best Cookbook From a Professional Viewpoint”.

“Chef Goin is such an example of someone who has followed and fulfilled their passion since a young age,” said Ann Muth, Vice President of Marketing at BlueStar. “We’re excited to support her journey and be a part of bringing that passion for cooking to her home, delivering the highest quality performance she is accustomed to in her restaurants.”

BlueStar’s Platinum Series Range has an unparalleled 10-burner top with an innovative interchangeable griddle and charbroiler. Integrated wok cooking and 25,000 BTU PrimaNova™ open burners offer unsurpassed power and performance. The 60” Platinum range also features two True European Convection ovens that fit 18″ x 26″ baking sheets and feature PowR Oven™ for 40% faster preheating. Chef Goin’s 36” Pro Built-In Refrigerator is a fan favorite, having won several awards including Interior Design’s Best of Year Awards, the Good Design Awards, Beautiful Kitchen & Bath’s 30 Most Innovative Products, and Design Journal’s Platinum Award for Design Excellence. The commercial-style design and performance offer advanced food preservation capabilities, including dual compressors, durable stainless steel and glass interiors plus metal shelving and door bins. Additionally, the oversized refrigerator has 22.4 cu. ft. of capacity, ramp-on LED lighting and full extending drawers with soft close technology for swift but smooth movement in the kitchen.

Chosen by Tineke Triggs, the award-winning designer with a keen eye for color, Honey Yellow is set to add a touch of adventure and joy to kitchen design

BLANDON, PA — December 7, 2023 — BlueStar®, manufacturer of professional-grade kitchen appliances for the home, is excited to introduce the 2024 Color of the Year, Honey Yellow. This bold choice, curated by the visionary Tineke Triggs, renowned for her soulful, artistic, and imaginative interiors, is a harmonizing blend of warmth and optimism, perfect for bringing creativity to the forefront of home kitchens.

In the quest for a forward-thinking color, Tineke carefully considered the prevailing trends and embarked on a journey to select a color that transcends time and resonates with a broad audience. With an eye for the evolving landscape of design, Tineke took inspiration from her personal preferences, falling in love with the deeper tones that have been a consistent theme in her recent acquisitions. The ten-year presence of yellow in her office affirmed her belief that Honey Yellow signifies what lies ahead—not just a passing trend but a color that brings enduring positivity.

“I wanted to choose a color that not only captures hearts and attention but also stands as a timeless expression of creativity,” says Tineke. “In my travels, it’s a color that has stood out as an anchor to other hues. It’s a key player in the evolving color landscape and its optimistic and versatile nature makes it a color for everyone.”

With a background in printing, Tineke draws on her knowledge of color theory and design aesthetics to envision a compelling palette. Honey Yellow’s parallels to the symbolism of amber, a gemstone associated with warmth, resilience, confidence, creativity, stability, and happiness, which aligns perfectly with Tineke’s ethos of creating interiors that provoke the senses and deliver on meticulous details. The color easily blends with any environment, making it a perfect choice for BlueStar’s 2024 Color of the Year.

“We’re thrilled to be working with a color expert like Tineke,” says Eliza Sheffield, President of BlueStar. “Color is an integral part of the BlueStar experience, and Honey Yellow is one of our boldest and most versatile colors—we can’t wait to see how home cooks bring this color into their kitchens.”

Honey Yellow is available on any of BlueStar’s cooking, ventilation and refrigeration appliances – including the award-winning Dual Fuel Range line. This color can be the anchor of the kitchen or the perfect accent. It can also be paired with any of BlueStar’s 10 metal trim options including pewter, brass and copper.  Customize any appliance with Honey Yellow, or any of BlueStar’s 1,000+ colors, with their ‘Build Your Own’ tool.

The New Ridgeline Hood is a Fully-Customizable Statement Piece for Any Home Kitchen

BLANDON, PA — June XX, 2023 — BlueStar®, manufacturer of professional-grade kitchen appliances for the home, introduces a new hood to its Abbaka Series – The Ridgeline. The 36” high Ridgeline is a first for the brand and fits perfectly with 9’ ceilings without requiring an additional duct cover. By offering a larger scale ventilation hood, the brand acknowledges the evolving trend in kitchen design, where the hood becomes more than just a functional appliance but also a striking element that enhances the overall aesthetic appeal. Like all BlueStar products, the Ridgeline is made for professional-grade performance to effectively remove smoke, odors, and grease from your kitchen. The Ridgeline is produced with heavy-duty, commercial-grade materials, and has three exhaust settings and a boost feature, all while running a whisper-quiet operation. Booth Curated by Award-Winning Interior Designer Noz Nozawa

BlueStar to Launch Dual Fuel Range Line, 2023 Color of the Year, and New Vent Hood Plus Preview Wine Storage at Booth C2108 in Las Vegas

BLANDON, PA — January 20, 2022 — BlueStar®, manufacturer of professional-grade kitchen appliances for the home, will showcase cutting-edge new products and designs at the International Builders Show (IBS) from January 31 to February 2, 2023 in Las Vegas. The booth was curated by designer Noz Nozawa, regional winner of the BlueStar 2022 Kitchen Design Contest and founder of San Francisco-based Noz Design. This year’s booth will highlight the award-winning Dual Fuel Range Line, statement ventilation, new wine storage, and BlueStar’s 2023 color of the year, Wine Red, as selected by Noz Nozawa.

Noz designed the BlueStar booth to express two opposing sentiments. The front features BlueStar’s color of the year, Wine Red — a deep burgundy that brings warmth into 2023, reflective of renewed energy and vibrancy. The vignette includes a custom mosaic by Artaic, to bring a sense of artwork into the kitchen. In contrast, the back of the booth celebrates the cool tones trending in 2022 — blues and greens — and has the energy of spring and summer. Dusty turquoise cabinetry and tile from Fire Clay are paired with copper hardware throughout the appliances and cabinetry.

“I love color in the kitchen,” says Noz. “It brings a unique touch while adding glamor and luxury. Part of why I enjoy working with BlueStar is the numerous customization options — finishes included. With endless color offerings and digital rendering tools, it was easy to find colors and finishes that worked together and intuitively land on Wine Red, a color that spoke to 2023.”

BlueStar will showcase its latest range, the brand’s first-ever Dual Fuel Line, now shipping throughout the US and Canada. The series features a fresh take on the brand’s iconic burners — an eight-point star shape, now in a show-stopping sealed format with restaurant-level heat and control plus the largest range of BTUs, from up to 25,000 BTUs down to 500 BTUs on every burner. The extra-large True European convection oven is designed for precise and even cooking and baking. An intuitive, full-color, 7” touchscreen offers improved visibility, high resolution, and “Quick Start” three-touch cooking. BlueStar designed and engineered Dual Fuel from scratch to exceed customer expectations and deliver a product that combines complete customization with trademark professional performance.

Additionally, visitors will get a fresh look at BlueStar’s ventilation line, and a first-time introduction to BlueStar’s first 36” high hood — the Ridgeline. In 2021, BlueStar introduced the Abbaka Series Line of 30” tall hoods, including the Atlas, Normandy, and Mesa, to meet increased market demand for statement ventilation. Seeing the need for even larger scale hoods, BlueStar introduces the Ridgeline, the brand’s first 36” tall hood — perfectly compatible with a 9” ceiling with no duct cover required. Available in any of BlueStar’s 1,000+ colors and comes standard with strapping that is available in any of their 10 trim finishes.

Finally, BlueStar’s booth will preview the expansion of the award-winning line of integrated column refrigerators and freezers to wine storage. The 24” wine refrigerator will have two cooling zones, — an upper and lower compartment individually temperature controlled between 39 °F and 64 °F — a humidity adjustment setting — and a bottle capacity of 72 bottles, with twelve (12) shelves with six (6) bottles per shelf.

“We are thrilled to be at IBS and provide an inside look at all the exciting innovations happening at BlueStar,” said Eliza Sheffield, President of BlueStar. “The home cooking experience is the driving force behind BlueStar, and we are excited to continue to elevate performance and design for our customers.”

Designer Noz Nozawa will be walking attendees through her booth design and inspiration for the color of the year. BlueStar will be at booth C2108, inside the American Gas Association.
