We are excited to announce that Brian Anderson from Thurston Kitchen and Bath has been named the winner of BlueStar’s 2024 Kitchen Design Contest.  His stunning kitchen design stands out as a harmonious blend of modern aesthetics and functional excellence, perfectly encapsulating the beauty of its breathtaking mountain setting.

The winning design in the 2024 BlueStar Kitchen Design Contest from Brian Anderson.

A Window to the World

The first thing that captures attention in Anderson’s design is the panoramic view offered by the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows. These windows not only flood the kitchen with natural light but also provide a seamless connection to the stunning landscape outside. The majestic mountains serve as a picturesque backdrop, making cooking and dining an immersive experience in nature.

Sleek and Sophisticated Interiors

The kitchen’s interior reflects a sleek and sophisticated aesthetic, characterized by clean lines and minimalist design. The choice of materials and colors complements the natural surroundings while maintaining a contemporary feel. The dark cabinetry contrasts beautifully with the lighter tones of the flooring and countertops, creating a balanced and cohesive look.  “The careful attention to scale, proportion and meticulous details elevates this refined kitchen design to stunning levels,” says 2024 contest judge and interior designer Heidi Piron.

BlueStar Range: The Heart of the Kitchen

At the heart of this award-winning kitchen lies the BlueStar 60” Platinum Series range in Wine Red/RAL 3005. The range, with its bold and professional-grade features, stands out as a centerpiece. “Selecting a range color to blend with the cabinetry was very smart and the accents create a wonderful cohesiveness with the hood, lighting, and other accents,” says judge Charla Ray from Charla Ray Interior Design.  Its red hue adds a pop of color, infusing the space with a touch of warmth and energy.

Functional and Stylish

Anderson’s design prioritizes functionality without compromising on style. The kitchen island, with its integrated sink and ample workspace, serves as a versatile hub for both meal preparation and casual dining. Pendant lights above the island add an elegant touch while ensuring adequate lighting for all activities. The thoughtful placement of the range and the spacious countertops allows for an efficient workflow.

The winning design in the 2024 BlueStar Kitchen Design Contest from Brian Anderson.

A Touch of Personalization

One of the standout features of Anderson’s design is its ability to reflect the homeowner’s personality and lifestyle. The open shelving above the countertops provides an opportunity to display personal items, like cherished kitchenware. This personalization adds a unique touch to the space, making it truly one-of-a-kind.

Brian Anderson’s award-winning kitchen design for Thurston Kitchen and Bath is a testament to his skill, creativity, and attention to detail. By seamlessly blending functionality, style, and a deep appreciation for the natural surroundings, Anderson has created a space that is both beautiful and practical. Brian Anderson’s work reminds us that with the right vision and execution, a kitchen can truly become the heart of the home.

As the leader in color and customization for the kitchen, BlueStar has always been at the forefront of design possibilities.  For some designs, the perfect color can not be found in our 1,000+ options. So, BlueStar can custom color match – for the ultimate in kitchen customization.  From paint colors to your favorite accessory there is almost no limit to what’s possible.  Read more to find out why custom color matching may be right for your design.

Tailored Look

Anneke, the visionary behind Coastal Interiors, transformed her kitchen into a coastal oasis by incorporating multiple custom color matched appliances from BlueStar.  At the heart of her kitchen is a 36” Platinum Series range painted in Benjamin Moore’s Normandy that creates a harmonious transition from the various wood tones and natural stones throughout the room.

For refrigeration, Anneke added a 36” PRO Built-In French Door refrigerator color matched to Benjamin Moore’s Simply White.  This elegant addition seamlessly blends with the surrounding upper cabinetry, completing the coastal aesthetic.

Make a Statement

Escape the all-white kitchen by incorporating statement pieces throughout the kitchen as seen in this Connecticut home.  By matching the 48” Nova Series range and Atlas vent hood in Benjamin Moore’s Hudson Bay to the nearby island, a pop of color is created that breaks up the monotony of the surrounding white cabinetry.  Additionally, the brass trim on the range and hood perfectly complements the rest of the hardware throughout the room for a seamless design.

Mix and Match Finishes

Another area where custom colors can be utilized is mixing and matching finishes throughout the room to create a cohesive design.  As seen in this historic San Francisco home, Benjamin Moore’s Iced Marble is the dominate color in this design with its use on the PRO Built-In Refrigerator, custom vent hood and surrounding cabinetry.  A second custom color, Benjamin Moore’s Sioux Falls, is then used on other areas such as the Double Electric Wall Oven and knobs on the Platinum Series rangetop to tie the entire design together.

Whether you’re looking for final piece to a tailored design or looking to make a statement in your kitchen, custom color matching is one way to achieve both goals.  For more information on custom color matching visit your authorized BlueStar dealer today.

Unveiling the Trending Colors of 2024

Step into our comprehensive review of the top color picks for 2024!  We dive into the leading color trends for the year ahead and offer ideas on integrating these vibrant hues into your home.  Whether you’re aiming to rejuvenate your kitchen or inject a splash of color, we have got you covered.  At BlueStar we appreciate the significance of color, which is why we provide an unmatched selection of customizable kitchen appliances to embrace color.

Delving into the 2024 Colors of the Year

Annually, the design community eagerly awaits the revelation of Colors of the Year from color authorities across several different industries.  Each year a few colors rise to prominence, influencing fashion, interior design and even appliances – creating trends and stimulating new color creativity.

Color trends have a significant role in our lives, consciously or subconsciously.  They elicit emotions, set the mood and mirror societal shifts.  The Color of the Year symbolizes a specific year’s collective mood and aspirations, making it a highly awaited announcement.

Introducing BlueStar’s 2024 Color of the Year – Honey Yellow

This bold choice, curated by visionary designer Tineke Triggs, renowned for her soulful, artistic and imaginative interiors, is a harmonizing blend of warmth and optimism, perfect for bringing creativity to the forefront of home kitchens.

Introducing BlueStar's 2024 Color of the Year Honey Yellow as selected by Tineke Triggs.

In her pursuit of a forward-looking color, Tineke meticulously evaluated current trends and embarked on a quest to choose a hue that transcends time and resonates with a wide audience. With a keen eye on the ever-changing realm of design, Tineke drew inspiration from her personal preferences, developing a strong affinity for the deeper shades that have consistently appeared in her recent acquisitions. The enduring presence of yellow in her office over the past decade reinforced her conviction that Honey Yellow represents the future – not merely a passing fad, but a color that exudes enduring positivity. “It plays a pivotal role in the evolving design landscape, and its optimistic and versatile nature makes it a color suitable for everyone,” remarks Tineke.

Discovering the Other Color Trends of 2024

Pantone has chosen the charming shade of Peach Fuzz as their Color of the Year. This warm and inviting hue exudes a sense of tranquility and comfort, making it an excellent choice for creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere in your home. Whether used as an accent color or as the main focus, Peach Fuzz adds a touch of elegance to any space.

Showcasing some of the other 2024 Color of the Year selections.

Benjamin Moore, on the other hand, has chosen Blue Nova as their Color of the Year for 2024. This cool and soothing shade of blue brings a sense of serenity and sophistication to any room. Its versatility allows it to be paired with a wide range of colors, making it an ideal choice for both traditional and contemporary spaces.

Sherwin-Williams has chosen Upward as their Color of the Year, a gentle and ethereal shade of blue. With its dreamy and calming qualities, Upward creates a soothing ambiance that promotes relaxation and tranquility. This versatile color works well in various design styles, from modern to coastal, adding a touch of serenity to any space.

Bringing the 2024 Color Trends to Your Home

When it comes to home design, the latest color trends can help you create a modern and stylish space. As we anticipate the year 2024, it’s time to delve into the colors of the year and how you can bring them into your home.

One of the simplest ways to introduce color into your kitchen is through the use of colorful appliances. Instead of sticking to the conventional stainless steel or neutral-colored options, consider using appliances in bold and vibrant shades. A colorful stove or refrigerator can instantly become a statement piece in your kitchen, adding a burst of personality and style.

When using colorful appliances, it’s crucial to create a harmonious color palette in your kitchen. You don’t want the appliances to clash with the rest of your design. Instead, choose colors that complement each other and create a cohesive look. For example, if you opt for a bright yellow stove, consider pairing it with neutral-colored cabinets and countertops to balance the boldness.

Start designing your own kitchen appliances with BlueStar’s Build Your Own Tool. Create ranges, ventilation hoods, and refrigerators in over 1,000+ colors. Accent your appliances with 10 metal trim options such as brushed brass or pewter and match or compliment your plumbing, hardware, or lighting fixtures. No matter what the choice, your kitchen should be a space reflective of your design preferences.

Vanilla Orange Cranberry Cookies

Cranberry Orange Vanilla cookie recipe from BlueStar

These cookies boast an exceptional flavor profile of vibrant orange and cranberry, enhanced by a touch of fragrant vanilla. Enjoy these cranberry orange cookies as a delightful treat year-round.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (8 tablespoons) butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • Grated peel of 1 medium to large orange
  • 1 teaspoon of real vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups dried cranberries; or a mixture of dried cranberries and toasted chopped walnuts or pecans

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 425° F.  Lightly grease two baking sheets, or line them with parchment.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the butter, sugar, orange peel, vanilla, baking powder and salt.
  • Beat in the egg.  The mixture may look slightly curdled; that’s ok.
  • Add the flour and dried cranberries (or cranberries and nuts), stirring until well combined.
  • Drop the dough by heaping spoonfuls onto the baking sheets, leaving about 1 1/2″ between them.  A level teaspooon cookie scoop works very well here; dough balls will be about 1 1/4″ in diameter.  Using the flat bottom of a glass dipped in sugar, flatten the cookies slightly, to a scant 1/2″ thick.
  • Bake the cookies for 6 to 7 minutes, until they’re barely set, and a light golden brown around the edges.  Don’t over-bake; if you do, the cookies will be hard, not soft and chewy.  Gently lift one of the cookies and look at the bottom; if you’ve used parchment, it shouldn’t be brown.  If you’re baking on a dark cookie sheet without parchment, it should be light (not dark) brown.
  • Remove the cookies from the oven, and cool them right on the pan.  If you need a pan to bake the remainder of the cookies, give the cookies about 5 minutes to set before transferring them to a rack to cool completely.

Notes:

  • For chocolate lovers, substitute 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips for cranberries.

Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe from BlueStar

You can’t miss with this timeless holiday favorite recipe. It’s certainly one you’ll find yourself baking throughout the year.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 3/4 cups brown sugar
  • 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt (rounded)
  • 2 1/2 cups chocolate chips

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 375° F.
  • Assemble all ingredients into a bowl
  • Portion 1 1/2 oz scoops onto a parchment lined baking sheet
  • Bake for 9 – 11 minutes or spread in a 9″ x 13″ for 22 – 25 minutes.

Peppermint Bark Sugar Cookies

Peppermint Topped Sugar Cookie from BlueStar

Add a festive touch to the traditional sugar cookie by sprinkling crushed candy canes on top, or unleash your creativity by incorporating your favorite snacks in place of the suggested ones to make it uniquely yours.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 cups all purpose flour

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350° F.
  • In the bowl of your mixer cream butter and sugar until smooth, at least 3 minutes.
  • Beat in extracts and egg.
  • In a separate bowl combine baking powder with flour and add a little at a time to the wet ingredients.  The dough will be very stiff.  If it becomes too stiff for your mixer turn out the dough onto a countertop surface.  Wet your hands and finish off kneading the dough by hand.
  • DO NOT CHILL THE DOUGH.  Divide into workable batches, roll out onto a floured surface and cut.  You want these cookies to be on the thicker side (closer to 1/4 inch rather than 1/8 inch).
  • Bake at 350° for 6 – 8 minutes.  Let cool on the cookie sheet until firm enough to transfer to a cooling rack.
  • Meanwhile, melt 3 cups of dark chocolate chips and 2 cups of white chocolate chips in microwave safe bowls.
  • Next, crush 10 peppermint candy canes in a large Ziploc bag
  • Once sugar cookies are cool, place cookies, one at a time, face down into the melted dark chocolate, drizzle white chocolate over each cookie – either with a piping bag or fork.
  • Sprinkle with crushed candy canes and your cookies are ready to serve!

Notes:

  • If you must chill the dough just leave it on the countertop for 10 minutes before rolling or work the dough with your hands for a few minutes.
  • Bake for 6 minutes to test.  They should be soft.  Leave them on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to cool completely.  If you reach 7 – 8 minutes and the edges turn brown your cookie with be crisper.

At BlueStar, we are proud to be celebrating 143 years of American manufacturing.  Since 1880, our parent company, Prizer-Painter Stove Works, has been manufacturing quality, customized products in our factory in Pennsylvania.

A History of Quality:

In 1880, Prizer-Painter Stove Works began manufacturing a full line of residential and commercial coal ranges, hot water heaters, furnaces and heating stoves in Reading, Pennsylvania.  The handcrafted products were sold under many of the popular brands of the day, and many of these models are still in service across America. In the 1950s Prizer also produced a full line porcelain enamel cookware under that brand name Prizerware.

In 2002, Prizer introduced handcrafted, restaurant quality ranges for the residential market under the BlueStar brand name.  Constructed of the highest quality commercial grade stainless steel and featuring the unparalleled high heat open burners, BlueStar ranges delivered true restaurant performance to the home chef.

Since 2002, BlueStar has continued to strengthen its reputation as the top manufacturer of high performance cooking appliances for the serious home chef.  The company has rapidly expanded the product line to include wall ovens, cooktops, rangetops, and custom ventilation.  In 2008, BlueStar began offering its products in 190 designer color options and then in 2009 added metal trims for a bespoke experience.

BlueStar products are available in over 1,000+ colors and finishes

In 2016, BlueStar announced the launch of the premium built in refrigeration product line.  Designed to pair perfectly with BlueStar cooking appliances, this new line of commercial-grade, built-in  refrigeration allows home chefs to entertain seamlessly – and the line can be color coordinated with BlueStar cooking and ventilation products for a complete custom kitchen.

The new 36-inch Built-in Refrigerator from BlueStar

BlueStar first stepped into the induction space in 2018 with the launch of their 36” induction cooktop. The cooktop delivered the efficient performance of induction with the precise control and powerful performance the brand is known for, combining speed and control with rapid heat accelerator technology for no-wait cooking. The induction cooktop enabled customers to create a fully electric kitchen from the brand for the first time, pairing it with its electric wall oven.

2019 brought the expansion of the ventilation line to include higher profile hoods within the Abbaka line. These 30” high hoods create a statement piece for the home kitchen and a focal point for any open floor design.

In 2021, BlueStar expanded its award-winning premium refrigeration line, by bringing its signature professional-level performance and unmatched customization to integrated Column refrigerators and freezers. The refrigerators have revolutionary cooling technology with advanced temperature control for longer food preservation. Designers could choose from panel ready, pro-style stainless or any of BlueStar’s 1,000+ colors plus 10 metal trim options.
